CEO

Bio

Sabrina Albert is the Founder and CEO of Stone Catchers Counseling, a private mental health practice that aims to serve all communities with compassion and expertise. With a Master's degree in social work and 20 years of experience in social services, Sabrina has made it her mission to provide accessible and effective therapy to those in need.

Sabrina was motivated by supporters in her life at an early age. She began her career at a group home for juvenile sex offenders. That experience inspired Sabrina to attend graduate school.

Throughout her graduate school career, Sabrina had the opportunity to work in several specialized settings that helped shape the therapist and person that she is today. While attending classes, she worked in an addiction program at a local behavioral health center. It was there that Sabrina started to truly understand how important early childhood experiences are in shaping adulthood. Sabrina immersed herself in learning about the many impacts of child abuse and treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Sabrina worked on a mobile crisis team, helping to stabilize those who were experiencing a mental health crisis. It was her internship in the prison system, however, that had the greatest impact on Sabrina. Providing counseling services for offenders showed her how harsh and unforgiving the criminal justice system could be. She saw the possibilities. She saw people putting in the work to make a change. She saw rehabilitation. Sabrina also saw that, for many, their lives would be defined in that one action, that one moment of one day. Sabrina graduated with her master’s degree in 2009 and made it her mission to carry the message of recovery and rehabilitation, with a focus on inspiring others to join her passion for social justice.

Sabrina began teaching in 2009 and has been seeing clients in a private setting since 2011. She also works as a crisis intervention therapist in the emergency department at a local hospital. From teaching at Triton College to working with women impacted by abortion at Rachael’s Vineyards, it is the full scope of Sabrina’s experiences that has led to her current career.

Along the way, Sabrina honed her unique approach to therapy, using her understanding of the unconscious mind, her skills in therapeutic interpretation, and her insights into early childhood experiences to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their lives. Through her work, Sabrina bears witness to the transformative power of therapy and the strength of the human spirit to overcome even the greatest challenges.

Sabrina saw the need for a different kind of mental health practice, one that was more accessible to those in need and that could serve vulnerable populations while still remaining financially stable. With this vision in mind, Sabrina founded Stone Catchers Counseling, a mental health practice that is strongly grounded in a compassionate, client-centered approach. Stone Catchers Counseling is staffed by majority of BIPOC clinicians who are dedicated to serving lower status communities. It is one of the few mental health practices in the county which accepts Medicaid.

Yet even as Stone Catchers thrived, Sabrina knew that there was more work to be done. She was acutely aware of the challenges faced by BIPOC communities, particularly with regard to student loan debt, and she realized that many mental health professionals were forced to choose between serving those in need and making a livable income.

With this in mind, Sabrina went on to create R&B Counseling. This new non-profit organization is dedicated to serving refugees and BIPOC communities.  R&B Counseling will provide a pathway for BIPOC therapists to qualify for public loan forgiveness without sacrificing their income. This creates a win-win situation where clients can receive the support they need to heal and thrive, and therapists can pursue their calling with dignity and financial security. The end result is a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate mental health system that serves the needs of all communities.

Sabrina is highly invested in exploring innovative approaches to mental health treatment. As a pro-psychedelics and anti-prohibition clinician, Sabrina believes that ketamine-infused therapy, along with MDMA and psilocybin-assisted therapy, can be a game-changer for individuals living with PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder. Not only is she a firm advocate of this therapeutic approach, but Sabrina herself has undergone ketamine therapy, fueling her desire to deepen her knowledge and expertise in this area. She completed ketamine-assisted psychotherapy training through the Transpersonal Research Institute of Psychotherapeutic Psychedelics.

Sabrina is proud of her Indian-American cultural background and is passionate about serving the immigrant and refugee populations. Sabrina hopes to assist in increasing access to psychedelic mental health treatment, particularly for lower-income minority communities who have been disproportionately impacted by the failed War on Drugs.

Sabrina's tireless efforts and tireless spirit make her a beacon of hope for those seeking a brighter tomorrow. R&B Counseling is a testament to her unwavering passion for helping others and her steadfast belief in the catharsis that therapy can provide.
